The FCT Emergency Management Agency, FEMA marked the 2023 Humanitarian day putting smiles on the faces of displaced persons settling in Wasa resettlement on Sunday 24th September 2023.

In partnership with NEAR FOUNDATION, a non-profit organization focused on serving humanity by creating equal opportunities for orphans and the disadvantaged in the society irrespective of religious or cultural affiliation. This kind of partnership aligns to the vision of FEMA which is reducing Disaster Risk for a Safe and Happy FCT.

Commending the gesture, The Director, Relief and Rehabilitation, Engr. Abdulrahman Mohammed who was representing the Director of FEMA for the distribution, stated that “We decided to partner with this organization to celebrate the day because of their track record in Humanitarian gestures.”

“Even though the day is passed, we keyed into the program to ensure that we put smiles on their (IDP’S) faces. You can see we are giving them food items, we will also be providing a borehole to reduce difficulty in accessing clean and healthy water in this settlement”.

Commending the partnership, Mr. Mohammed Ali of NEAR FOUNDATION reflected on the seamless working environment FEMA had afforded them to thrive in fulfilling their mandate in the FCT.

“We are here for the distribution of food items to the displaced persons because they need it, this is to mark the World Humanitarian Day, working with FEMA has made it smooth and easy and we look forward for continued partnership in lifting the lives of those who are downtrodden in the FCT”. He said.

Lydia Haruna, the women leader of the settlement in Wasa expressed delight for the initiative and appreciated FEMA management and NEAR FOUNDATION for not forgetting them but insisting on alliviating their suffering by providing food items and borehole water.

World Humanitarian Day which is celebrated in 19th September annually is an occasion to advocate for the survival, well-being and dignity of crisis-affected, people and for the safety and security of aid workers.

This year’s theme for World Humanitarian Day is about the unwavering commitment of countless individuals to deliver for and with the communities they serve, #NoMatterWhat,”
