Rainy Season, FEMA Appeals Against Indiscriminate Dumping of Waste.

  1. The FCT Emergency Management Agency, FEMA, has again cautioned against building on water channels or the dumping of refuse in uncovered manholes in the City.
  2. In a statement in Abuja, the Director General of FEMA, Dr Abbas Idriss blamed blocked manholes for floods in some parts of the City.
  3. Frowning at the dumping of refuse in uncovered manholes, Idriss noted that the activities of a few unpatriotic persons could have a negative impact on the larger society.
  4. He said all hands must be on deck to ensure that no life is lost to flooding this rainy season.
  5. The FEMA Boss emphasized the need for residents to own their environment by reporting to the appropriate authority anyone who builds or blocks the water channel.
  6. He also warned motorists against driving into a pool of water during heavy rainfall and called for the cleaning of drains to ensure the free flow of stormwater.
Dr Idriss urged residents to always use the 112 emergency toll-free number in the event of an emergency.
