Onset of Rains: FEMA To Barricade Galadimawa Slip road, 3 Others.

Following the heavy downpour of Monday, the FCT Emergency Management Agency has carried an assessment tour of areas affected by the floods.
There were no casualties inspire of the heavy floods.
The Team which visited Carter’s Court in Apo Dutse District recommended the clearing of the water way beside the Estate .
In a remark, the Director General of FEMA, Dr Abbas Idriss noted that the area was heavily flooded last year and urged AEPB to immediately clear debris on the waterway.
Represented by the Director, Forecasting Response and Mitigation, Mrs Florence Wenegieme, Idriss frowned at the development of a recreational park close to the water ways and urged Parks and Recreation Department to investigate.
At the Damagaza box culvert, FEMA underscored the need for the AEPB to clear debris to ensure free flow of water.
At the Lokogoma District, Pengassan 1, Estate where flash floods from upstream flooded the area after yesterday’s rain, FEMA recommends a temporary mitigative measure to barricade roads during heavy downpours to save lives.
“The barricades will be placed at the entrance to Ipent 5, a second barricade at the road leading to Pengassan 1 where we have a container bridge and a third barricade from Ipent 2 by the container bridge”. ” For the mitigative measures to succeed residents of the Estates must take ownership of the barricades and appoint someone to manage it to ensure that no one goes out or comes into the Estates during heavy downpour”.
The FEMA Boss also announced that the slip road at Galadimawa round about would be closed to vehicular movement from Thursday until the end of the rainy season.
Idriss assured that FEMA was working round the clock to prevent the loss of lives and property this rainy season.
He appealed to residents to always dial the 112 emergency toll free number in the event of an emergency.
