FCTA Put Smiles On The Faces Of Flood Affected Persons In Yangoji,Kwali Area Council.

The Federal Capital Territory Administration, (FCTA), has given food and non food items as relief materials to about 180 people from 6 communities in Yangoji,Kwali Area Council of the FCT affected by flooding.

1.Flagging off the distribution of the relief materials , the Permanent Secretary in the FCTA, Mr Olusade Adesola said it was at the instance of President Bola Tinubu who was concerned about the plight of the people.
“The Governor General of the FCT, President Bola Tinubu has asked us to provide these palliatives to you. Food and non food materials like spaghetti,cement,roofing sheets,nails, clothing materials ,plates and
cups amongst others “.

2.The Permanent Secretary informed that the FCTA would liaise with the Federal Ministry of Works and Housing to find a lasting solution to perennial flooding in the affected communities.
“The problem started when the second road was constructed. We are going to consult with our engineers for remedial action”.
3.Appealing to the beneficiaries not to be compelled to sell the relief materials, but to use them to improve their wellbeing, he urged the people to always heed early warnings on the weather.
4.Mr Olusade also appealed to the Council to establish it’s local emergency management committee to effectively tackle disasters at the grassroots.
5.Earlier, the Director General of the FCT Emergency Agency,(FEMA), Dr.Abbas Garba Idriss informed that the Nigeria Meteorological Agency NiMET had put the onset of this year’s rain in Kwali from the 11th of May to end the 4th of November.

6.Idriss stated that FEMA inline with NiMET prediction commenced the sensitization of farmers in the area.
” Working with the Agric and rural development secretariat,we have sensitized farmers on the appropriate crops to plant,when to plant and to avoid farming along the flood plains”.

7.Idriss appealed to people living on the water channel to relocate to higher grounds.

8.In a welcome address the Chairman of Kwali Area Council, Mr Danladi Chiya, who commended the FCTA for the gesture, stated that his administration was sensitizing the people on the need to relocate from flood prone areas .

9.The Chairman also appealed to the FCTA to assist the council tackle rising insecurity.

10.Representatives of the beneficiaries, Dinatu Daniel and Ibrahim Siedu while appreciating the FCTA for the relief materials appealed for a lasting solution to perennial flooding in the area.
