Early Warning;FEMA Places Staff On Alert.

The Federal Capital Territory,(FCT) and States contiguous with it are expected to experience heavy to moderate rainfall tomorrow.

1.A statement by the Nigeria Meteorological Agency,(NiMET), also anticipates moderate to heavy rains in parts of Katsina,Kano,Bauchi , Plateau and Taraba states.
2.The impact based weather forecast by NiMET, predicts flash floods,riverine flooding,strong winds, soil erosion as well as thunder and lightening.

3.The forecast also anticipates displacements of people due to floods, outbreak of water borne diseases and damages to infrastructure.

4.Similarly, NiMET impact based weather forecast also anticipates low to moderate rainfall on Sunday 23rd,2023 in parts of the FCT and it’s neighbouring States.

5.Reacting to the early warning,the Director General of the FCT Emergency Management Agency,(FEMA),Dr Abbas Garba Idriss has placed the Search and rescue team of the Agency on alert.
6.Dr Idriss has also directed an update of the Agency’s flood contingency plans.

7.He appealed to residents to heed the early warning and avoid driving or wading into a pool of water during the rains.
8.Idriss also urged FCT residents to wait out the rains during heavy floods or use an alternative route.
9.According to the FEMA Boss, all blocked drains must be cleared adding that people who reside on water channels must relocate.
10.He emphasized the need for residents to always dial the 112 emergency toll free number in the event of an emergency.
