MARKET FIRES: FEMA TO MEET WITH STAKEHOLDERS
20 December, 2021.
As part of measures to tackle incessant market fires in the Federal Capital Territory, the FCT Emergency Management Agency, (FEMA), is to hold an emergency coordination meeting on fire prevention on Wednesday in Abuja.
A statement by the Director General of FEMA, Alhaji Abbas Idriss said the meeting would involve 10 key stakeholders.
According to the statement, FEMA has already identified markets prone to fire and would soon commence strict surveillance and the deployment of fire defence equipment to markets to try to prevent fire.
He informed that fire inspectors would be sent to markets to ensure compliance with, “what we are going to give them,we don’t want to loose lives.” He said.
He appealed to FCT residents to only connect power through Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC).
He lamented that most people keep gas cylinders inside the homes, describing the act as dangerous.
The FEMA boss emphasized that residents must be taught how to operate fire defense equipment.
