HARMATTAN, SWITCH OFF ELECTRICAL APPLIANCES WHEN NOT IN USE

2 December 2021

The Federal Capital Territory Emergency Management Agency, (FEMA), has reiterated the importance of putting off all electrical appliances before leaving home or going to bed, particularly in the Harmattan season.

In a statement in Abuja, the Director-General of FEMA, Alhaji Abbas Idriss said most fires in homes and business places in the FCT were caused by power surge.

He also underscored the need to equip homes and business places with basic fire fighting equipment like extinguishers and fire blankets to curtail fire outbreaks.

On movement this yuletide, the FEMA boss appealed to motorists to adhere to road protocols, including equipping vehicles with tools for emergencies.

Stressing that all hands must be on deck to ensure a hitch-free yuletide, Alhaji Idriss urged stakeholders in charge of towing broken-down vehicles to step up their efforts.

He appealed to FCT residents to immediately call is 122 toll-free line during any emergency.
