We ensure quick response to disasters, and efficient emergency coordination for Evacuation, Relief, and Rehabilitation.
The FCT Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) was established by Section 8 of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) Act of 1999 – which stipulates “the establishment for each state of the Federation, a State Emergency Management Committee”. Hence, it’s coming into being in June 2013 after due approval by the Honourable Minister, FCT, to operate as a State-level Agency in line with the Act.
FEMA is responsible for managing disasters, both natural and man-made, within the FCT. This includes developing and implementing emergency plans, conducting risk assessments, and coordinating disaster response and recovery efforts.
FEMA is also responsible for forecasting potential disasters and taking preventive measures to mitigate their impact. This involves conducting risk assessments, identifying vulnerable areas and populations, and developing plans to reduce the impact of disasters.
FEMA coordinates and supports emergency services during disasters, including search and rescue operations, medical assistance, and evacuation efforts. The agency also works to ensure that critical infrastructure and essential services are maintained during disasters.
FEMA plays a crucial role in providing relief and rehabilitation to affected communities following disasters. This includes providing emergency shelter, food, and medical care, as well as supporting long-term recovery efforts such as rebuilding damaged infrastructure and restoring basic services.
“Our goal is to ensure that the FCT is adequately prepared to respond to emergencies and disasters and that the impact on communities is minimized.”
Toll Free
FEMA will ensure, through coordination with international, federal, and local shareholders that the FCT is prepared to, and recover from all-natural and man-made emergencies.
The FCT Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) is pushing to implement solutions and systems that leverage emerging technologies to improve service delivery. The Director General of the agency has highlighted the need quickly key into opportunities for the application of Information Technology to enhance disaster management. This push focuses on building emergency response systems for effective scaling from routine to disaster operations and exploiting redundancy and diversity to achieve resilience.
We focus on reducing disaster risk for a safe and happy FCT. We achieve this with staff and a team of well-trained professional personnel who are dedicated to ensuring the safety of lives and properties in the FCT.
We coordinate fire suppression efforts during emergencies, working closely with fire departments and other emergency responders to contain and extinguish fires. The agency provides equipment and training to support these efforts and also conducts fire risk assessments to identify vulnerable areas and prevent future fires.
FEMA coordinates ambulance services during emergencies and disasters, ensuring that patients receive timely and appropriate medical care. The agency works with local ambulance services to provide additional support and resources as needed, and also coordinates the transportation of patients to hospitals and other medical facilities.
During emergencies and disasters, FEMA coordinates medical services to ensure that affected communities have access to critical care. This includes deploying medical teams to affected areas, establishing emergency medical facilities, and coordinating the transportation of patients to hospitals and other medical facilities.
FEMA supports rescue services during emergencies and disasters, working closely with search and rescue teams to locate and extract survivors from dangerous situations. The agency provides equipment, personnel, and training to support these efforts, and also coordinates with other emergency responders to ensure a seamless response.
We work to promote community safety through education and outreach programs, including fire safety and emergency preparedness training. The agency also provides support for community policing initiatives, working with law enforcement agencies to prevent and respond to crime and other public safety threats.
FEMA conducts fire investigations to determine the cause and origin of fires, working closely with local fire departments and other emergency responders. The agency uses advanced techniques and equipment to conduct these investigations, and also provides training and support to local fire investigators to improve their capabilities.
